DIY Vases

So. We all are familiar with mason jars. Like these:

I think that in some way, mason jars are probably all included in some childhood memories. Like, for me, I think of pickles. My grandfather grew cucumbers in his garden, and my grandmother pickled them. I'll always remember reaching for the best pickles ever from those mason jars. Then, washing them out, and giving them back to Grandma, for the next cucumber season! (Her pickles are the best, hands down. No argument.)

Anyway, I've noticed that mason jars are making an appearance again. And a pretty big one, if I do say so myself. I've never seen so many pictures using mason jars as drinking glasses, flower vases, or candy jars in my life! I've several pictures of empty glass bottles and jars (with the labels soaked off) painted different colors, and used as vases, or shelve decoration. Like these:

I think these are so charming!

This is such an easy DIY project. And look! I even found a nice little picture of how to do it. Maybe Grandma will let me have some of her jars, and I can paint a few of my own!

Happy Monday!

Go Theta, Whoa, Go Theta!

Our new pledge class has finally arrived! I am so excited that these girls are finally here! It has been so amazing to watch the Lord work this week. This summer, so many people have been praying for this new pledge class, including myself. We prayed that the Lord would have a hand in this pledge class, that He would handpick every girl that is supposed to be here. We really desired the Lord to be so, so involved and present in rush, and it was such an honor to see Him work, and that He allowed us to see His hand in all of this. I can say with confidence that every girl has been handpicked, and God has answered our prayers in such big ways. I am so excited for this pledge class, and even though there are a lot of girls that we didn't expect to be in the 2011 pledge class, I am praising God because I know He has put these girls in the house for a reason, just like we asked Him to! After all, God who made the system controls the system. He has given us amazing young women this year.

Here's a picture of our new PC, all 76 of them!

Jeremiah 29:11
"'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.'"

Our amazing house!

My first temp little! Welcome to the Black and Gold, K.
I can't believe I'm going to have a LITTLE!
(Whaaaaat?!)

Me and my pledge sister, Q.
Look at that perfect kite! Just look at it!

Isaiah 12
"Then you will say on that day,
'I will give thanks to You, O Lord;
For although You were angry with me,
Your anger is turned away,
And You comfort me.
Behold, God is my salvation,
I will trust and not be afraid;
For the Lord God is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation.'
Therefore, you will joyously draw water
from the springs of salvation,
And in that day you will say,
'Give thanks to the Lord, call on His name.
Make known his deeds among the peoples;
Make them remember that His name is exaulted.'
Praise the Lord in song, for He has done excellent things;
Let this be known throughout the earth.
Cry aloud and shout for joy, O inhabitant of Zion,
For great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel."

Fall Fashionista

So, I don't talk about clothes much. On here, at least. And in reality, not in life, either. (Atleast, I hope this is true. Friends, is it?) But, with fall coming around the corner, I'm getting steadily more obsessed with clothes that I'll be able to wear in 70 degree weather. I'm ready to get out of these triple digit temperatures people!

First, I have to admit...I've never owned a pair of boots before. So, after seeing this picture on Pinterest, I broke down and bought some, knowing for some time now that they were probably an essential to my closet that I was missing.

Are these not adorable?! These cuties can be purchased here.

So, logically, I am really excited to try these kids out. On some outfit inspiration like this:

C'mon October! You can't get here soon enough.

I also miss wearing sweatshirts. I am a cold-natured person to begin with, so I'm usually chilly. (A sad fact, I know. I've been told many times, guys, don't worry.) Anyway, I miss wearing warm sweaters and sweatshirts, like these cuties:

I love gray. Sorry I'm not sorry. I know it's bland, but don't knock my neutrals. Because I plan on WOWing all of you with this:

Ka-BLAM right?!

But, alas, since it's still summer, I have to daydream about fall and wait patiently for cooler temperatures, while wearing some cute summer dresses. Like this baby:

Okay, I promise, my fashion rant is over. Sorry, sorry, I'm a girl, gotta get it out of my system. I promise this week I'll blog about home/decorating stuff, since that is really what I adore.

Happy Monday!

Album of the Week: Young Love

I am so obsessed with this album, it's not even funny. In fact, it might be unhealthy. (But probably not.) I absolutely LOVE Mat Kearney. His newest album, Young Love, came out August 2, and I haven't stopped listening to it! One thing that I have noticed and appreciated about Mat Kearney is that each album he releases has a different sound. This album is much different that his earlier albums, but I love it! It. Is. So. Good. My favorite songs so far are "She Got the Honey," "Ships in the Night," and "Learning to Love Again." My poor roommates, it's all I've been playing for an entire week! You guys should check it out--it is absolutely astounding.

Psst! Happy Birthday shout out to my best friend, Alexis, who turns 20 today! Love you, love you, love you!

Just Some Inspiration

This inspires me every time I look at it!
Shall we go find some wild air?
Sounds pretty good to me, too.

Just a Thought...

I know you guys have probably already seen this, but I just love it! Plus it just makes me think about a lot of things. Like how sometimes everything in one day seems to go wrong. I always have to remind myself to take a deep breath, and remember that today is enough. It's enough. I'm alive, I'm breathing, and God granted me another day, which is something I should be grateful for. So: have you been thankful for today yet?

It's Workin' Week

Hey blog world! I will now claim the title of "most inconsistent hypocritical blogger ever," thank you. Thank you, I didn't work very hard for this "award." Or "shame badge," as it could also be called. (You decide.)

I've mentioned this previously, but I am in the sorority Kappa Alpha Theta. This past week, we've been working really hard, getting prepared for rush! (It's so crazy to think that one of these girls will be my little...eek!) Anyway, in honor of my sweetie pie sisters who have all been working their little tails off, this post will be all about Theta, and the wonderful women I've come across during this time.

First, an obligatory picture of the Kappa Alpha Theta crest. YAY!

The first "real" picture is of my mother and I on Bid Day, when I pledged Theta. My mom was a Theta here, too, at the University of Oklahoma, and sharing this experience, history, and knowledge with her has been so fun! I'm walking the same halls she did, experiencing the same events as she did, and getting to talk about every moment with her is crazy! I love how much closer Theta has brought me to my mom. She is one of my best friends! (Can you tell I'm a momma's girl?)

Second picture is of my pledge class, PC '10! We are the 101st pledge class at our chapter, which is such an honor!

The next picture is of two girls in PC '09 that I ADORE. This was taken on Bid Day, before I even got my t shirt on! This is my very first kite, and I am so excited that it was with two girls that have become really special to me.

Crazy enough, the girl on the left in the above picture ended up being my BIG! I adore her, and cannot believe I've only known her for less than a year, even though we went to the same high school, and our parents are neighbors! (This is of us and my twin at Big/Little.)

The next picture is of me with my sweet, sweet friend Kyleigh. If I were asked the question, "who did you spend the most time with second semester?" I'd answer "KYLEIGH!" I adore that girl so much, I made her hang out with me like every day. Or I invited myself along. (Isn't that ridiculous of me?)

This past summer, I was on project with Student Mobilization. We had a weekend designed to bond with our discipleship group, so we chose to go to Disneyworld! I learned so much this summer from every single one of these girls. I love and adore them all!

These are only a few pictures that barely sum up this past year in Theta, but it has been an amazing one. I can't wait for another! (And here it comes, like a frieght train. Time cannot be stopped, people. It's just one of those things.)

Album of the Week: No Far Away

I love Chris August's album "No Far Away." It is amazing! His songs "7x70" and "Starry Night" are so so good.
